In Longonot, Naivasha, an ambulance carrying medics on a patient rescue mission struck and killed an 11-year-old child, resulting in a tragic outcome.

Outraged by the incident that occurred around noon, furious citizens directed their rage at the ambulance driver, who had to run for his life.

Throughout the occurrence on the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road, police stepped in after a county ambulance linked to Naivasha Sub-county hospital was severely damaged.

Problems began when an ambulance en route to Mai Mahiu for a patient rescue struck the boy at Longonot center, resulting in his immediate death.

Samuel Maina, a witness, stated that the ambulance was traveling at high speed when the incident happened. He added that residents did not comprehend the urgency, as there was no patient on board.

“Upon realizing the ambulance was empty, the public redirected their anger toward the driver and the vehicle, necessitating police intervention,” he said.

Naivasha DCIO Isaac Kiama verified the occurrence, noting that the driver has since provided a statement and an inquest file has been initiated.

He stated, “Unfortunately, a minor lost their life during the incident and the ambulance suffered significant damage; however, traffic officers are looking into the matter.

A 30-year-old man was lynched in the nearby town of Mai Mahiu after being caught stealing chickens from a residence.

This coincided with an increase in incidents of cattle rustling in the semi-arid region, which heightened fear and tension among local residents.

Simon Mbuthia, an elder in the village, stated that prior to the suspect’s capture, several households had lost chickens and livestock to unidentified individuals.

“He was caught in the act of stealing more than ten chickens in a gunny sack, and the crowd killed him,” he stated.

The DCIO reported that the bodies from both incidents were transported to the mortuary at Naivasha sub-county hospital.
