An autopsy has revealed that Martin Nzyuko Mwau, one of the three men previously reported missing in Mlolongo, Machakos County, and whose body was found at the Nairobi Funeral Home, died from asphyxia due to neck compression.

This is based on a report from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations that was viewed by the Star. According to the report, Wednesday saw the performance of postmortems on the remains of Mwau and Justus Mutumwa Musyimi.

Asphyxia, which typically results from a disruption of breathing and leads to unconsciousness, is characterized by a deficiency of oxygen or an excess of carbon dioxide in the body.

“Following the discovery of two bodies at the Nairobi Funeral Home suspected to be of the two missing persons, namely Justus Mutumwa Musyimi and Martin Nzyuko Mwau, please be informed that today, February 5, 2025, the postmortem was conducted on the two severely decomposed bodies by the government pathologist, namely Dr Richard Njoroge, in the presence of family pathologist Dr Omuok, family members, government chemist experts, DCI, CSI, IPOA, and human rights groups,” the report read in part.

“From one body believed to be of Justus Mutumwa Musyimi, the pathologists formed the opinion that the death was caused by multiple abdominal, chest, and head injuries due to blunt force trauma,.

From the body believed to be of Martin Nzyuko Mwau, the pathologist opined that the cause of death was asphyxia due to neck compression. Samples were collected by the government chemist analysts for toxicology and DNA sampling for conclusive identification,” the report read.

The case is pending under investigations.

The corpses believed to be those of Justus Mutumwa and Martin Mwau, who were said to have been kidnapped in Mlolongo, Machakos County on December 17 of the previous year, were discovered at the Nairobi City Mortuary.
