Kenya Met Issues Caution Over Heavy Rainfall In Several Parts

The Kenya Meteorological Department issued a warning regarding light showers in Nairobi and several other regions of the country in the upcoming two days.
The Met forecasts that Nairobi and other regions will likely experience rain on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
In its daily forecast, the Met predicted that showers are expected in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka.
Showers are expected in the southeastern lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland areas of Tana River County. It was forecasted that these areas would experience showers from Saturday to Sunday of the previous week and on Monday of the current week.
According to the Kenya Met, however, most areas of the country will remain dry and sunny.
According to a post on X by Kenya Met, “Most areas will stay dry and sunny, but light to moderate showers are expected in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Nairobi.”
The weatherman cautioned that the downpours may be accompanied by storms in some regions.
In its five-day weather forecast issued on Thursday last week, the Met signaled temperatures in Nairobi and its surroundings might hit highs of 28°C, with lowest température reaching up to 10°C.
It had been predicted in the same forecast that in the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and the larger Rift Valley region—including counties like Kisumu, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Busia—high temperatures would remain steady at 31°C during the day and drop to 09°C at night.
It was anticipated that a comparable situation would occur in the coastal counties, such as Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale, which are expected to stay mostly dry during the day with occasional nighttime cloudiness.
It is predicted that the daytime temperatures in these areas will go beyond 32°C, and the nighttime temperatures could attain as high as 21°C.
