DCI Officer Linked to Nightclub Shooting and Robbery

A DCI official has been arrested in connection with a robbery with violence event by officers from the Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), working with detectives based in Ruiru.

The officer, who works at the DCI headquarters in Kibwezi, Makueni County, was detained on Monday, February 17, according to detectives, because of connections to a robbery that occurred on July 22 of last year.

Police officers were notified of a robbery at the Yikisaya Trading Center in Kibwezi Sub-County on the previously mentioned day.

After responding quickly, the officers found that a gang of four had robbed partygoers at two nightclubs at the trading center.

According to the DCI officers’ reports, the thieves, who were armed with a weapon and wore jungle costumes, had broken into a club and threatened patrons and bartenders to give up their possessions.

Before the robbers took Ksh50,000, one bartender was allegedly shot in the stomach during the heist and suffered severe injuries.

After that, the armed guys went to the Darajani Shopping Center and broke into a second nightclub. Before robbing bar employees and patrons of Ksh25,850 and two cell phones, the bandits there fired two rounds into the air.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect who was taken into custody yesterday was either involved in or may have had knowledge of the two robbery occurrences.

The officer’s firearm was seized in response to the reports, and the empty cartridges found at both crime locations were transferred to DCI Headquarters for ballistic analysis. The officer’s handgun was the source of the cartridges, according to analysis.

The defendant was hauled before the Makindu Law Courts yesterday following months of investigation, and investigators were given a 14-day custodial order to do their work.
