Jkia fire

A wildfire has erupted on section of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport grassland.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the fire has devoured the area near 75 Airport North Road. The fire has not impacted any vital infrastructure, according to the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), which verifies the conflagration.

Kenyans.co.ke has received photos and videos of the blaze encroaching on the grassy area close to the airport runway. The fire is close to the runway, according to one video taken from inside a landing plane.

In an effort to limit the fire and lessen the situation, police and fire engines are present at the area. The Nairobi County Fire Department and the KAA Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service are on the scene, according to Kenya Defense Forces firefighters from KAA.

All airport activities, including landing and takeoff, are scheduled to continue, according to KAA’s statement. “All airport activities including flight schedules, passenger processing, cargo handling remain fully operational and unaffected,” stated KAA.

Videos uploaded online show Kenyans outside the fence of the airport watching the inferno.

Many internet users are demanding that the largest airport fire in the nation be put out quickly, even though the source of the fire has not yet been determined.

In an unfortunate coincidence, the fire comes at a time when JKIA received a global accolade after being crowned the African Cargo Airport of the Year at the STAT Times International Awards for Excellence in Air Cargo.

Through a statement, the Kenya Airports Authority confirmed the win for the country’s largest airport, terming it as a recognition for the airport’s contribution in improving trade and logistics across the continent.

“Kenya had a huge victory! The STAT Times International Awards for Excellence in Air Cargo have named Jomo Kenyatta International Airport the African Cargo Airport of the Year! KAA said.
