MPs Hail Praise to Raila for His Participation in AUC Bid

During their first meeting following Saturday’s vote, MPs praised former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for his bravery and Pan-Africanist principles in his campaign to become chair of the African Union Commission.
Along with other leaders and Kenyans, the majority of the MPs had traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to show their support for Raila.
Mahmoud Youssouf, the foreign affairs minister of Djibouti, defeated Kenya’s Raila in the race for the position of chairperson of the African Union Commission.
In the elections, Raila went off against Youssouf and Richard Randriamandrato, the former Foreign Affairs Minister of Madagascar.
Moses Wetang’ula, the speaker of the House, had previously stated that he had been notified by roughly 40 members of parliament who intended to travel to Ethiopia in order to support Raila.
He offered them the break and praised them for their patriotism.
The MPs were self-sponsored because they traveled in their individual capacities as leaders and citizens.
congratulated Youssouf on being elected as the AUC Chairperson and praised Raila for his efforts during Tuesday’s sessions.
Kimani Ichung’wah, the majority leader, denied accusations of bribery and said Raila’s run for office was driven by politics.
Junet Mohammed, the minority leader, praised Raila’s work and described his campaign as an example of Kenya’s dedication to African leadership.
Despite their prior political rivalry, Nyando MP Jared Okelo claimed that President William Ruto went above and beyond the call of duty to back Raila.
