Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has responded to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s statement that President William Ruto should not be permitted to enter Meru if he dismisses Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Speaking on Monday, February 24, at a gathering in Meru, the governor criticized the former DP for his comments on Sunday and declared that Meru will not be afraid to back the president. Meru leaders will not join the former DP in opposing him, Mwangaza said further.

“There is nothing we can gain from the opposition. Those who are making noise are people who were defeated in elections, people who have no followers, and people who only want to serve their own interests—they are the ones trying to blackmail the president,” she stated.

Kawira confirmed that supporting the president is essential to bringing about economic change in the county and the nation as a whole.

“We support the president and the DP since they are the ones propelling Meru’s and the nation’s progress. Since we will not benefit from joining the opposition, we cannot afford to do so,” she said.

Mwangaza’s comments follow the former DP’s threat to lead demonstrations in the event that Martha Koome, the troubled Chief Justice, is ousted from office. According to Gachagua, Ruto made this intentional move to limit political influence in the Mount Kenya region.

“We are aware that he intends to remove Koome from office. Now, this is too much. How can the leadership of a whole community that elected you president be removed? “I said.”

Gachagua chastised the Meru region’s Kenya Kwanza friends for keeping quiet about Koome’s problems. Through his ‘political vehicle’, which he intends to unveil in May 2025, he threatened the leaders that they will be voted out of power in the next elections.

“I need you to deal with all of the Meru leaders who have betrayed the community early in the morning of 2027. Traitors will be punished by this society, known as the Mount Kenya region, for fifty years.
