Ruto Orders Quick Reconstitution of IEBC

The group charged with finding candidates for the position of Chairperson and Commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been instructed by President William Ruto to move quickly.

Speaking at Malava Member of Parliament Malulu Injendi’s funeral on Tuesday afternoon, the Head of State urged the panel to expedite the procedure so that Malava citizens may cast ballots for their new representative.

Ruto vowed to support Malava locals and insisted that his administration would guarantee smooth service delivery even in the event of their legislator’s passing, even as he called for the electoral commission to be immediately reconstituted.

President Ruto continued by reaffirming his willingness to collaborate with the newly elected Malava MP.

Less than a month has passed since he announced the creation of a nine-member committee to supervise the electoral commission’s restoration.

Ruto named Lindah Gakii, Oloo Adams, James Misati, Nicodemus Bore, Koki Muli, Andrew Kipkoech, Nelson Makanda, Caroline Kituku, and Fatuma Saman as task force members in a notification published in the gazette on January 27.

The panel members have posted job openings and started gathering a list of candidates for shortlisting since their appointment.

On February 18, the committee, chaired by Nelson Makanda, addressed members of the National Assembly, assuring Kenyans of the panel’s dedication to a free and fair process.

“We want to reassure the public that the selection panel is dedicated to carrying out an impartial and open procedure. In this sense, we will update the public throughout the hiring process,” Makanda stated.

Following weeks of hospitalization at Nairobi’s Aga Khan University Hospital, MP Injendi passed away on February 17. He passed away during his third term in the National Assembly as a lawmaker.
