Investigation of Man Slit Throat at KNH Hits Dead End

It might take even longer for the family of Gilbert Kinyua, a patient who was brutally murdered inside a ward at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), to get the truth about what happened.
Kinyua’s family has been hopping from office to office in a desperate attempt to find the truth about their loved one’s murder, but they haven’t been successful yet.
They now suspect foul play in the halted investigations since they have no solid leads.
The investigation may have come to a standstill after a probable suspect’s DNA test yielded negative findings, Citizen TV has learned, adding to the case’s uncertainty.
Susan Wanjiku, the deceased’s wife, stated, “At this time, neither the hospital nor the DCI have provided any consoling information.”
In a hospital ward where he had sought treatment—a setting intended for healing, not harm—Kinyua’s life was cut short in the most unthinkable way. He was killed in cold blood, unable to move or defend himself, helpless and confined to his bed.
Kinyua’s family has been living in constant turmoil for more than a month as they move from office to office in quest of answers.
What actually transpired when Kinyua passed away in his hospital bed in the middle of the night on February 7, 2025? Investigators were informed by nurses that they found his lifeless body with blood all over it and a slit in his throat.
Later, a discarded kitchen knife was discovered outside the window. But why and by whom was this done? The riddle has only grown more complex due to shocking security flaws.
The security cameras weren’t functioning. There were no answers from the hospital. And justice seems more distant than ever now.
As the family’s only chance for justice, blood samples from Kinyua’s wardmate, the murder weapon, and the crime site were sent for DNA analysis.
Weeks have gone by with no updates or answers. Investigators simply remained silent. For Kinyua’s family, this suggests a cover-up rather than merely a delay.
After Kinyua’s family’s fruitless hunt for answers, Citizen TV went one step further and acquired the DNA findings.
The patient who shared the ward with Kinyua—the very person investigators had deemed a prime suspect—did not match the DNA, which was shocking. What does this mean, then? Not a suspect. Not a single arrest. An unresolved case.
Since there are no solid leads, investigators must start over and reexamine the circumstantial evidence. According to sources who spoke to Citizen TV, police could need to ask the KNH management for additional information if they are unable to solve the issue.
As Kinyua’s family gets ready to bury him in Mukurweini, they are still troubled by unresolved issues and the persistent worry that justice would never be served.
