Rex Masai's Murder Case Postponed After Key Witness Fails to Appear on Court

On Monday, March 10, the hearing regarding Rex Masai’s death was postponed after a crucial witness asked for additional time to submit crucial court documents.

On June 24, 2024, while Gen Z protesters were demanding improved national administration, Rex was killed on Tom Mboya Street.

A police officer was supposed to testify to continue the procedures, but he did not show up for the hearing.

A civilian witness was to hear testimony from Fredrick Ole Tepes, the armorer from Central Police Station.

The hearing was rescheduled for March 13 and 14 since the civilian’s testimony was scheduled to follow the police officer’s.

Rex’s family is being represented by attorney Mwangi Chege of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), who stated that they will see to it that justice is done in order to stop security personnel from deploying guns on unarmed protesters in the future.

The police officer, the civilian witness, and an activist are scheduled to testify during the course of the two-day case.

To ascertain who used the gun that murdered Rex, the armorer is asked to describe the handling of firearms on the day of the shooting.

It was challenging to determine which policemen were stationed in the vicinity where Rex was shot along Tom Mboya Street since there was no formal order for operation that day, according to former Nairobi police commander Adamson Bungei and former Nairobi Central Police commander, who testified in court.

The witness was advised to be well-prepared for the upcoming hearing by the presiding magistrate, who granted the postponement but cautioned against needless delays.
