SHA Faces Setback as Court Issue Conservatory Orders

The hiring process for a number of important positions was put on hold on Monday, March 24, after the High Court issued conservatory orders, dealing the Social Health Authority (SHA) yet another setback.

The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) filed a petition contesting the legitimacy of the recruiting campaign, and Justice Lawrence N. Mugambi addressed it in his decision.

The petition and supporting documentation must be served by close of business on March 24, 2025, according to the judge’s decision. Reactions must be submitted within the next three days.

The Social Health Authority is now prohibited from hiring officers and agents until the case is heard as a result of the ruling.

Recently, SHA started a hiring campaign to fill important roles, such as Principal Officers, Director of Benefits Management, and Assistant Director of County Coordination.

The recruiting procedure was unlawful, according to KUCO, which has been a harsh critic of the new medical program that took the place of the now-defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

The union, which has regularly threatened strikes over a range of problems, recently criticized two high-ranking SHA officials for allegedly being the cause of difficulties with the new Taifa Care implementation.

KUCO specifically demanded that Abdi Mohamed, the chairperson of the Social Health Authority (SHA), and Robert Ingasira, the CEO, be fired for allegedly aiding in the adoption of unfavorable policies in the new healthcare system.

Peterson Wachira, the chairperson of KUCO, claims that the policies have made it more difficult for the nation’s healthcare facilities and medical professionals to offer high-quality healthcare.

The following hearing in response to the conservatory orders has been scheduled for April 10.
