Matatu Full Of Students Overturns, Injures Several At Witeithie
Several students were injured on Friday morning after a 14-seater matatu carrying them collided with another vehicle in Witeithie, Kiambu County.
According to witnesses, the students believed to be from Mugoiri Girls High School, were on their way home for the April holidays when the matatu lost control and went off the road, landing in a ditch.
However, local neighbors who witnessed the catastrophe raced to the scene and assisted in retrieving the injured students from the debris before transporting them to the hospital.
While the actual number of trainees involved in the accident has yet to be determined, there have been no reports of deaths from the early morning tragedy.
Videos and photographs of the incident shared on X showed the truck leaning on one of its sides, with a gathering of students and people standing around.

The accident caused a traffic jam along the popular road after residents congregated on the main roadway, forcing motorists to seek alternate routes.
The latest collision adds to the number of road accidents involving schoolchildren this week.
Earlier this week, three Ober Boys students died in an accident on the Sondu-Katito Road in Nyakach, Kisumu County.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, April 3, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) urged all actors in the road transport industry to implement measures to maintain road safety.
NTSA noted that it would work closely with the National Police Service (NPS) to crack down on non-compliant drivers, particularly during this easter season.
“In the past, the country witnessed cases of reckless driving, and distractions by students and unfortunately, some of the incidents led to fatal and serious injuries,” NTSA noted.
“Through close collaboration with law enforcement, parents/guardians, school management, transport service providers and school children, such incidences can be prevented.”
