Kenyan Woman Convicted In The US For Using Sister’s Documents
A Kenyan woman was reportedly convicted in the United States after being caught attempting to enter the nation with her sister’s travel documents.
According to Washington DC News, the 33-year-old was caught by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents on February 21 this year for using her sister’s passport and visa to enter the US.
Her story began when she was apprehended at Washington Dulles International Airport upon arrival from Accra, Ghana.
During her interrogation at the airport, the Kenyan woman was unable to answer basic questions regarding her previous travel history related to her passport and visa.
During the interrogation, she admitted to using her sister’s documents.
During preliminary inspections, Customs and Border Protection officials discovered more documents belonging to the 33-year-old’s sister, such as a birth certificate, credit cards, and tax forms.
The suspect is alleged to have sought to obtain a non-immigrant visa, which is normally issued to travelers who enter the United States briefly for business or tourism.
She was later arraigned and prosecuted in Eastern District Court in Virginia.
“We appreciate the efforts of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in pursuing this conviction,” said Christine Waugh, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer.
“We hope that it sends a strong message that CBP remains committed to intercepting those attempting to immigrate illegally to the United States,” she added.
While praising the court for condemning the Kenyan woman, Waugh stated that CBP would continue to collaborate with federal law enforcement partners to hold individuals who violate America’s immigration laws accountable.
The 33-year-old joins a long list of Kenyans who have previously been jailed in other countries.
