ODM MP Vows To Probe Justin Muturi Over Inflated Multi-Billion Deal

Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed has announced that he plans to file a motion in parliament to call former Public Service CS Justin Muturi.

Speaking on Saturday, the Minority Leader claimed that while Muturi was exposing President William Ruto, he painted himself as faultless, despite his flaws.

According to Junet, Muturi is accused of being responsible for the purported escalation in the cost of building Bunge Towers.

The structure was initially budgeted at Ksh6 billion, but it allegedly increased to Ksh27 billion during his stint as Speaker of the National Assembly.

“As an MP, I want to bring forward a motion to summon the former CS so that he can explain to us how the construction of Bunge Towers, which we had budgeted to cost Ksh6 billion, ended up costing Ksh27 billion when he was leaving office. I want him to explain this to parliament,” the MP said.

Members of Parliament officially occupied the Bunge Towers building in April 2024, 14 years after it was constructed.

The work, which began in 2010, was originally scheduled to be completed in 2016 but was postponed until 2024, 14 years later.

The tower, located just across from the Parliament buildings, has a tunnel and 28 floors filled with cutting-edge amenities for MPs and personnel.

A spot check revealed that the building cost Ksh9 billion, not Ksh27 billion, as claimed by the MP.

The facility was originally intended to cost taxpayers Ksh5.89 billion.

However, the cost was raised to Ksh7.1 billion, with financial claims drawing Ksh1.1 billion and Ksh225.2 million in interest on late payments.

The building cost around Ksh9.6 billion by the time of completion. The building has four basement floors with parking spaces for up to 350 vehicles.

Other facilities in the building include an up-to-date health club that includes cardio sections, massage rooms, steam baths, sauna, reflexology, manicure, and pedicure facilities.

Furthermore, the MP chastised the former CS, claiming that his frequent television appearances and exposés should be directed to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) rather than the media.

“Muturi has been speaking a lot, saying a lot of things, but I’d like to say, all this information should be taken to the DCI and EACC for investigations,” he continued.

Junet’s comments came a day after the former CS, who was fired by President Ruto just two weeks ago, accused his former employer of being irredeemably corrupt.
