
Police Launches Investigation Into Varsity Student’s Suspected Suicide
Police are probing the probable suicide of a 20-year-old Maseno University student who was discovered dead in his Kisumu home on April 2, 2025.
The first-year student is thought to have committed suicide by hanging himself with a sisal rope looped around his neck from one of the roof rafters at his rented property.

His body was found hours later.
Authorities are investigating if a suicide note recovered at the location was written by the student.
The body has been brought to the mortuary, and a postmortem examination is scheduled.
In another incident in Mtito Andei, Makueni, 57-year-old Muthoka Ndunda was discovered dead after hanging himself with a sisal rope from a tree in the woods.
There was no suicide note found, and the motive is unknown.
Kelvin Macharia Njeru, 24, of Gachoka, Embu County, committed suicide by hanging himself with a sisal rope fastened to a roof rafter of his home.

The cause of his death has not been confirmed, and his body has been transported to Embu Level Five Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police have raised alarm over the rising frequency of suicides, stating that up to two cases are reported every day.

According to the World Health Organization, contributing factors to suicide include joblessness, death, academic pressures, legal issues, and financial troubles.
Additionally, also bullying, history of previous suicide attempts, family history of suicide, substance abuse, and mental health disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder.
