US Terminates Another African Grant Foundation As Kenya Suffers Multimillion Deal
The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) has suspended grants totaling more than Ksh 6.7 billion (about $51 million) in many African countries, including a project in Kenya.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an Elon Musk-led federation organization, said on Tuesday, April 8, that the USADF has cancelled the Kenyan award valued at around KSh 6.3 million ($48,406).
The Ksh 6.3 million was meant to help develop a WhatsApp chatbot to assist local businesses in selling their products.
The USADF offers a Learning Hub, a digital platform that includes a WhatsApp chatbot and gives African entrepreneurs access to business training materials.
This campaign was created in conjunction with Visa and Shift Impact Africa.

The United States Congress established the USADF in 1980 as an autonomous government agency.
Its primary purpose is to support African-led development by delivering funding and technical help directly to African grassroots organizations, cooperatives, and small companies.
It focuses on working directly with local communities to assist them in discovering long-term solutions to their economic issues, and its primary goal is to promote economic growth, job creation, and improved livelihoods throughout Africa.
The organization accomplishes this by supporting small and emerging businesses. It focuses on sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, youth entrepreneurship, and women-led companies.
