Embattled Governor Invites EACC For County Investigation Amid Impeachment Plot

Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has requested the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to visit the county and probe her, rather than relying on what she termed as false criticism.

Speaking on Tuesday, April 8, the governor stated that she was not concerned about the outcome, as it would ensure that the panel received accurate information regarding her performance.

“I want to urge the EACC and all the government agencies not to let people continue sending you information that is not true,” she stated.

“If you have any information or need any clarification, or if you need to come to investigate, come to Machakos County,” she added.

“We will provide whatever you need so that you can know whether what you are being told is the truth or a lie. As the governor of Machakos County, I am not fearful.”

This invitation comes only days after Governor Wavinya Ndeti chastised her predecessor, Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, and urged him to stay out of Machakos County matters.

In an angry statement on Saturday, the governor reminded Mutua that he was no longer the county head and that his intimidation tactics would not work on her.

“Mutua, you are not the governor of Machakos. Leave Machakos alone and let me run my Machakos,” the governor warned.

“I am dedicated to serving the people of Machakos, and I will not allow anyone to sow discord through external political influence,” she added.

“I will not tolerate any schemes to derail my administration from the work we have committed ourselves to. I’m sending a strong warning to our detractors. Your plans will not prevail.”

Ndeti is currently under impeachment danger from Muthwani Ward MCA Dominic Maitha, who is associated with CS Mutua.

Mutua appeared to remove himself from the incident in a rebuttal the next day, stating that he would not support any impeachment petitions against Ukambani governors.

He also urged regional leaders to maintain peace and unity in order to secure prosperity in the three countries and avoid repeating previous issues.

“When I served as Machakos Governor and Kivutha Kibwana served in Makueni and Malombe in Kitui, we were always being fought,” Mutua stated.

“Our projects were being diminished. This meant that we were not able to serve our people as expected. Right now, I see that this is happening again in Ukambani.”

He continued: “I want to urge the Ukambani leaders to maintain unity to bring development projects to Ukambani.”
