Another Super Metro Bus Involved In An Accident On Thika Road

A Super Metro Sacco matatu was involved in a road collision on Thursday night, just a month after the vehicles were reinstated after being suspended.

According to a video published online, the collision occurred at 11 p.m., as the vehicle drove from the CBD to Thika.

However, while in Ruiru, the driver missed to see a lorry in front of him and collided with it from behind.

According to occupants of the vehicle who spoke with this magazine, the driver allegedly said that he was tired and begged them to engage him in conversation to help him stay awake.

“He didn’t notice the truck ahead of him, which was moving but at a slower speed. As a result, he rammed into it from behind,” said one of the passengers.

The motorist suffered major leg injuries and was taken to a local hospital by good Samaritans.

The two additional occupants in front had minor head injuries, and other passengers received minor injuries as a result of the impact.

Because of the severity of the crash, the front end of the vehicle had to be ripped away to rescue the driver.

In March, another Super Metro Sacco truck was involved in a fatal accident that killed Gilbert Thuo Kimani.

Kimani was the passenger who was thrown out of a moving car on Thika Road over a Ksh 30 fare disagreement.

Following this event, on March 20, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) suspended Super Metro’s operating license due to noncompliance with safety requirements.

Furthermore, the NTSA asked that over 200 buses from the Sacco be inspected and a road safety sensitization campaign implemented.
