KUCCPS Issues New Directives To Universities, TVETs On Student Intake
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) has given new directions to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, as well as public and private universities, on student intake and program offerings.
This follows the launch of the KUCCPS online application portal.
In a notice published in a local newspaper, KUCCPS directed all higher education institutions to disclose detailed facts about their programs on prominent platforms to assist students in making educated decisions during the application period.
“TVETs and public and private universities are required to provide sufficient information about their programmes to enable potential students to make informed choices on their career pathways,” the notice read in part.
The action comes after KUCCPS formally launched an online placement system for universities, public TVETs, and teacher training institutions (TTCs) from March 28 to April 30, 2025.
The announcement aimed at candidates seeking admission to public and private universities around the country.

According to KUCCPS, an applicant seeking admission to a public or private institution must be a Kenyan citizen. Non-citizens are currently not eligible for university placement in Kenya.
Non-Kenyans, on the other hand, are eligible for placement in the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education, Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education, and Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) programmes.
Furthermore, applicants must have taken the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) test, which is conducted annually by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
An applicant seeking placement through KUCCPS must meet the minimal requirements to apply for degree, diploma, certificate, and artisan programs.
According to KUCCPS, a degree-seeking applicant must receive a least KCSE grade of C+ (plus).

Meanwhile, a diploma student must have a minimum grade of C- (minus). A certificate student must have at least a D+ (plus) in KCSE.
As the application season continues, KUCCPS CEO Agnes Wahome addressed concerns on Tuesday about students being assigned to courses they did not apply for.
Wahome noted that the problem is especially prevalent among applicants to medical schools.
She observed that many students focus extensively on a few specific programs, resulting in strong competition and eventual placement in alternate courses.
