Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Korir Sing’oei chastised the world for failing to stop Sudan’s war, which entered its second year on April 15.

This comes hours after the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) officially declared a parallel government.

Sing’oei said that Kenya wholeheartedly agrees with the previous president’s assessment that the ongoing conflict is the result of the world’s irresponsible actions.

The PS cited a statement by former South African President Thabo Mbeki.

Mbeki stated in an official declaration that the world had failed Sudan due to inertia, inaction, and, in some cases, involvement in exacerbating the violence.

The former president addressed following a consultative London Conference on Sudan with members from Sudanese political parties, civil society leaders, and humanitarian organizations.

He asked them to think about the next steps in Sudan’s war, which has brought life to a standstill.

Two years into the fight between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, the Sudanese people continue to suffer, a condition that Mbeki believes must end sooner, if not immediately.

However, the former president stated that talks proved that the fight between these two parties was unwinnable, and there was no military solution.

“The message from our Sudanese consultations is clear. First, there is no military solution,” the former president continued.

“This war is simply unwinnable, and it is destructive. Neither the SAF nor the RSF can achieve a decisive victory over the other.”

However, this does not rule out the possibility of restoring peace in the country.

Mbeki has called for a shift toward a credible peace process, with serious diplomatic coordination and long-term reconstruction efforts.

Furthermore, Kenya and South Africa have advocated for a coordinated international response, with active Sudanese participation, to construct an inclusive peace process to restore the country.

To bring the war to an end, regional and international enablers have been told to stop supporting it.

Previously, Kenya was accused of facilitating the war after allowing the RSF to hold many parallel meetings, allowing them to legally form a parallel government on April 15.

Speaking on the peace process, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy acknowledged that there have been significant efforts and interventions to end the war.

However, they have been met with a lack of political will from the government.

“Very simply, we’ve got to persuade the warring parties to protect civilians, to let aid in and across the country and to put peace first,” Lammy noted.

Both Kenya and South Africa have agreed that this should be the last year Sudan is celebrating its anniversary under war.
