Mediheal Hospital’s Kidney Transplant Services Suspended, Effective Immediately
The government has halted all transplant services at the Mediheal Group of Hospitals. The directive takes effect immediately.
The Ministry of Health announced the action on Wednesday. It expressly stops kidney transplant surgeries at the facility.
According to the statement, the decision was made in response to “credible concerns” raised by both the government and the general public.
Concerns have been raised about the hospital’s compliance with ethical norms.
“Effective immediately, all transplant services — and in particular kidney transplant services — at Mediheal Group of Hospitals are hereby suspended until further notice,” the statement read.
Officials cited ethical concerns as the cause for the shutdown.

“This decision follows credible concerns from government and citizens regarding the facility’s adherence to required ethical standards in the conduct of transplant procedures,” the Ministry said.
No other information has been provided concerning the nature of the concerns.
It is also unknown how lengthy the ban will be. The Ministry stated that services are paused “until further notice.”
The suspension represents a significant step in the health industry. Mediheal Group is one of Kenya’s private hospitals that provide transplant services.
The measure is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance medical monitoring.
It comes after increased scrutiny of how transplant services are handled across the country.
