Another UDA Senator Goes After Governor Natembeya Over Hospital Drug Crisis

Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang renewed his spat with Governor George Natembeya, sharply criticizing the county government for the claimed ongoing shortage of crucial drugs in public hospitals.

Chesang spoke at a community engagement on Saturday, April 19, and fiercely backed the Social Health Authority.

He also lashed out at leaders, accusing them of undermining the national government’s attempts to accomplish Taifa Care.

“Anyone who has been sick and received treatment here knows the truth,” Chesang said. “Let’s not be lied to—the program works.”

The Senator also chastised government officials for their continued attacks on SHA, stating that he would not remain silent while county citizens suffered from a lack of medical supplies.

Chesang remarked that, while SHA was working in other areas, Trans-Nzoia was falling behind due to the county government’s ineffective efforts.

During the community interaction, the Senator also gave thousands of citizens an Easter pleasure by gifting them food, doubling up the initiative with a SHA registration campaign.

In addition, the Senator pledged to spearhead SHA registration drives throughout the county to guarantee that more residents benefited from the Taifa Care Initiative.

Part of his program includes a promise to send mobile clinic trucks to outlying places to administer medications and register more county residents.

“If you see me bringing drugs here, it means I know you are suffering,” Chesang added in a subtle dig at the county government.

Chesang’s recent move highlights a simmering political feud with Governor Natembeya, which dates back months.

In addition to claims of harming the county’s medical industry, Chesang has previously accused the county government of mismanaging Ksh800 million in county development funds.

More recently, Natembeya has made extravagant allegations that his life was in danger due to his criticism of Kenya’s Kwanza government.

The governor accused the government of sending goons to attack him at the funeral of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati.

Natembeya was speaking during a seed distribution event in Kaplamai Ward, Trans Nzoia County.
