Senator Demands Mash Poa Bus Incident Report Following Woman’s Sexual Assault
Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has ordered an incident report from the Mash Poa bus company after a woman was dragged, robbed, and sexually abused on one of its vehicles on the way to Mombasa last week.
We are deeply disappointed by the incident involving a woman who boarded a Mash Poa matatu and was later found hospitalized two days later without any clear explanation. In a letter to the firm’s manager dated Monday, April 21, the Senator stated that the company should have a report documenting the steps taken by its employees and management in response to the incident.
Orwoba has requested that the company provide the report to her by the end of Tuesday, April 22.

“Given the gravity of the situation, I urge you to prioritise this matter and provide a full incident report detailing the events as they transpired, including any actions taken by your staff and management in response to the incident,” she stated.
“Please submit the requested report to my attention by the close of business on Tuesday, 22nd April,” she stated.
“I trust that you will treat this request with the urgency and seriousness it demands. I look forward to your swift response.”
Orwoba stated that the occurrence raises severe issues about the safety of passengers on the bus service and that the report will be critical in ensuring that the woman receives justice.
“As you may be aware, Ms. Omondi (victim) was reportedly dragged, robbed, and sexually assaulted while travelling on your service,” she stated.
“This shocking event raises serious concerns about passenger safety and the protocols in place to protect individuals travelling with your company.”
The woman stated on her official social media accounts that she was dragged by a passenger who sat next to her on the route to Mombasa from Nairobi on Monday, April 14.
This is scary and unfortunate. The police cannot be absolved, they must investigate thoroughly. Mash Poa should be compelled to release the footage, and every staff member on that bus must record statements. 1/2 https://t.co/0wzxucLomT

According to the victim, she became unconscious after a passenger, a middle-aged male, handed her two cups of tea to hold.
The woman claimed she awoke disoriented at the Coast General Hospital, where she was told she had been taken in by a Mash Poa conductor and a boda boda rider.
Following the event, the woman said that the firm failed to provide her with information about the passenger who allegedly dragged her.
She also reports that Coast General Hospital declined to begin an investigation into her case.

According to the woman, she was missing several garments she had worn, as well as personal goods such as cash and a phone, which she claims were stolen.
“This is a bus company I have used diligently since I moved to Diani, almost three times a month. Most of the Nairobi team knows me by name,” she stated.
“I need an explanation of how I woke up in the hospital without some clothes, yet I had them when I boarded the bus,” she added.
“I am losing it because I don’t have answers, and all I’m getting from Mash is We don’t know.”
