Hanifa, JKIA Whistleblower Land Roles At Nation Media In Significant Editorial Shake-Up
Hanifa, a popular activist, is one of tens of people who have won new jobs at Nation Media Group following the company’s recent restructuring.
In an internal communication published by Editor-in-Chief Joe Ageyo, the company announced the need to respond to changes in content consumption and audience behavior in Kenya and elsewhere.
Hanifa, one of the most outspoken critics of Kenya’s Kwanza government on social media, has been hired as a writer for the Daily Nation.
On Tuesday, April 22, Hanifa posted her debut article, titled We’re not going anywhere, and we won’t wait for your permission.

Besides Hanifa, Nelson Amenya, who gained nationwide attention for whistleblowing particulars of the Adani deal, also landed a role at the Kimathi Street-based media house.
“As the content landscape rapidly evolves, our newsroom will continue to respond appropriately by constantly evaluating our structures and making adjustments,” Ageyo stated in a communique.
The reform centered mostly on the editing department, with the corporation striving to increase digital innovation.
The media organization also hopes to increase audience involvement in countries such as Tanzania and Uganda, where it has a strong presence.
James Smart, who was previously a Senior News Anchor, has been promoted to Managing Editor of Broadcast and New Media.
