President William Ruto’s administration plans to sign a multibillion-dollar agreement with the Chinese government to build a cutting-edge Foreign Affairs complex in Nairobi.

According to individuals familiar with the matter, the two parties plan to sign the agreement during President Ruto’s state visit to Beijing, China.

He will meet with key Chinese government officials, including President Xi Jinping.

While the actual cost of the arrangement has yet to be determined, Business Insider Africa estimates the facility’s construction will cost billions of dollars.

The agreement is part of the Asian nation’s overall aim to strengthen bilateral relations and strategic cooperation with East Africa’s most stable economy.

Ruto’s five-day state visit to China aims to boost bilateral commerce and investment, as well as advance infrastructure collaboration.

Korir Sing’Oei, Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, stated during an interview in Beijing that the contract was one of several high-profile accords that Kenya and China planned to execute.

Sing’Oei also stated that a feasibility study for the project was underway and that discussions about the project were still ongoing prior to the official groundbreaking.

“This is a conversation we will have before the groundbreaking. At this point, the project is undergoing a feasibility study,” the PS told the Chinese media.

Furthermore, the complex’s specific location has yet to be confirmed.

However, it is expected to give adequate room and modern facilities, as the current offices on Harambee Avenue have exceeded the capacity.

Ruto left for China on Monday, April 21, to meet Xi Jinping and open up new chances for Kenya. Hussein Mohamed, the State House spokesperson, announced his departure.
