KUCCPS Issues Course Applicants 7-Day Window For Application

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened a seven-day application window for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) applicants looking to enroll in various tertiary programs.

The placement service announced on Wednesday, April 23, that the application window was open to individuals interested in pursuing a degree or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses.

KUCCPS announced that the application portal would be closed on April 30 after one week, locking out numerous non-compliant students who would not have submitted their applications on time.

While encouraging timely applications, the placement service stated that degree course applications were exclusively for those who took the KCSE in 2024, whilst TVET courses were for KCSE candidates who took the exam between 2000 and 2024.

Furthermore, KUCCPS indicated that individuals who took their secondary exams between 2000 and 2024 were also eligible to enroll in Teacher Training Colleges.

According to the placement agency, TVET course applicants can apply for diplomas, certificates, or artisanal courses, but TTC applicants can only apply for teaching courses at certain colleges.

However, KUCCPS emphasized that degree courses that are only available at accredited public and private universities were restricted to candidates with a mean grade of C+ or higher.

“1 week to go! Have you submitted your application for a degree or TVET programmes? Yesterday was the best time to apply; today is the second-best time. Do not wait for the last minute. Apply now!” KUCCPS announced.

The announcement came just five days after KUCCPS authorities voiced worry that more than half of the students who received Grade C+ or higher had failed to submit their applications.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, April 17, KUCCPS Director for Placement and Career Development John Oluoch stated that more than 100,000 candidates who qualified to attend the institution had not filed their applications.

He went on to announce that only 104,000 of the 246,000 students who received Grade C+ or higher have successfully filed their applications, with less than a fortnight till the portal closes.

“We are nearly getting to half of the total number of students, so we are urging those who have not been able to do so to apply, and they should not wait for the last minute to struggle and access the portal,” Oluoch told candidates.
