TWO Police Officers Arrested For Hiding 2Kgs Of Seized Bhang
Two police officers were arrested after confiscating and concealing two kilograms of bhang at a Nyeri police station.
Police authorities said there were also claims of bribery that led to the April 24 arrest.
The arrest was made after a woman claimed the two cops had confiscated the drugs and demanded a bribe for her release on April 15.
She told police she had to part with Sh100,000 for her freedom. However, the officers did not release her narcotics.
They also did not book the case at the local police station as required to indicate they had recovered the two kilos of narcotics, police said.
Furthermore, they did not reserve the seized bhang at the station. Officials said the motive was not immediately established.
Out of rage and frustration, the woman told a local politician about the incident. The politician called a protest to condemn the incident.
Police in the area demanded to know the reasons for the planned protests, and when they were informed, they conducted a search of the homes of the two officers who had been negatively mentioned.
Tetu commanders conducted a search at the homes of Muthinga police officers, as mentioned by the demonstrators.
The woman claimed that a female and a male officer went to her house and picked up a bag containing the drugs.
They also briefly detained her before successfully demanding a bribe of Sh100,000 in exchange for her release.
Police said a bag containing approximately two kilograms of bhang was discovered in the policewoman’s home.
The second male officer was arrested after it was revealed that he was the one who accepted the bribe for the suspect’s release.
According to officials, no report was recorded in the Occurrence book, and the station commander was not informed, making the development illegal.
