Iran Explosion Kills 14, Leaves Over 800 Injured At Bandar Abbas Port
On Saturday, a massive explosion at Iran’s largest port, Bandar Abbas, killed at least 14 people and injured over 700 others, according to Iranian state media.
The explosion struck the Shahid Rajaee sector of the port just as Iran began a third round of nuclear talks with the US in Oman.
However, there was no evidence of a link between the two incidents.

The explosion in Iran was caused due to mismanagement of a cargo unit with highly flammable and explosive material
The cargo was damaged and opened up a rip witch ignited the flames and ultimately caused the explosion

Just few hours after the explosion in Bander Abbas, there was another explosion in the not so distant Shahid Rajaee Port in Iran.
There is no confirmation that the explosions are linked, but the coincidence is suspicious.

Hossein Zafari, a spokesperson for Iran’s crisis management organisation, sought to blame the explosion on improper chemical storage in containers at Shahid Rajaee.
“The cause of the explosion was the chemicals inside the containers,” he told Iran’s ILNA news agency.
“Previously, the Director General of Crisis Management had given warnings to this port during their visits and had pointed out the possibility of danger,” Zafari said.
However, an Iranian government spokeswoman stated that, while chemicals were suspected to have caused the incident, the exact cause had yet to be determined.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for an investigation into the incident and dispatched his interior minister to the scene.
The minister stated that efforts were ongoing to suppress the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring places.
Iran’s official TV networks broadcast a video of a massive black and orange cloud of smoke rising above the port in the aftermath of the detonation.

It also depicted an office building with its doors blown off and papers and debris scattered around.
Shahid Rajaee Port, located near the Strait of Hormoz, is Iran’s largest container hub, handling the vast bulk of the country’s container goods.
According to Iranian media, the bomb smashed windows within a several-kilometer radius and was heard on Qeshm, an island 26 kilometers (16 miles) south of the harbor.

The explosion at Bandar Abbas in Iran has caused the fire to spread.

A local crisis management official informed state television that the blast occurred after several cargo held at the port burst.
As relief workers attempted to extinguish fires, port customs officials stated that trucks were being evacuated from the area and that the container yard where the explosion happened likely included “dangerous goods and chemicals”.
