Eliud Kipchoge Finishes 6th In The London Marathon, Kenya’s Sawe Dominates
Eliud Kipchoge, Kenya’s marathon legend, finished sixth in the highly anticipated London Marathon on Sunday, April 27.
Kipchoge, despite being 40 and in the twilight of his career, defeated some difficult opponents in a marathon dominated by his Kenyan colleague Sebastian Sawe.
Sawe won the marathon with an outstanding world record time of 2:02:28 in his second 42-kilometer marathon.

The London Marathon, one of the biggest races this year, drew nearly 56,000 runners, including well-known international superstars hoping to leave their mark on the competition.
However, it wasn’t long until the race’s favourites, including Sawe and Kipchoge, broke away from the rest of the field.
Notably, Kipchoge, who previously won the London event in 2019, performed admirably by keeping up with his younger competitors for much of the race.

The men’s race was defined by Sawe’s brave decision to forego a drink in order to focus on the race at 1 hour and 30 minutes.
By this point, there were hints that the Kenyan would almost probably finish in the top two.
Sawe’s 35km split time of 1:41:43 was impressive, and his estimated finish time dropped rapidly as the race progressed.

In the women’s event, Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa clocked 2:15:30 to win the Women’s London Marathon in a race in which Kenya’s Joyciline Jepkosgei managed an impressive second-place finish in 2:18:43.
Dutch Olympic marathon champion Sifan Hassan secured an underwhelming third-place finish in 2:18:59.
