‘I Was Misquoted!’ – Jalang’o Speaks After Reports Of Disparaging The Kisii Community
Phelix Odiwuor, aka Jalang’o, a Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP), has denied bashing the Kisii community during a speech on Sunday, April 27, in Kisii County’s Kitutu Chache North constituency.
Jalang’o took to social media on Monday morning, claiming that his statements had been misquoted and taken out of context.
He encouraged Kenyans to watch the entire video, in which he mentioned attending a witch doctor’s gathering in the region.
The congressman went on to say how much he respected the Kisii community, referring to them as his family, friends, and people.
My heart is heavy seeing my words misquoted.

During the Sunday fundraising event, Jalang’o told an account about eavesdropping on a witch doctors’ meeting while visiting Kisii.
Lightheartedly, he recounted how the witch doctors had complained that some of their perilous activities had been halted due to numerous development initiatives initiated by the constituency MP, Japhet Nyakundi.
“I slept at Marani Simba Lodge, and while there, I stumbled onto a meeting of about 12 people and decided to eavesdrop. I then found out that they were witchdoctors,” he stated.

“They were saying how Japho (MP Japhet Nyakundi) has affected their work—the ones that run a night— because Japho had decided to bring electricity everywhere. Now their night-running activities have been halted because some of those street lights are motion-detected.”

He also praised his fellow MP for pursuing additional measures to expand the electrical network and improve road infrastructure.
He stated that even though he was a first-term MP, other leaders might learn from him.
Although the comedian-turned-MP’s statements were received with laughs from the audience when he uttered them, videos of the same quickly circulated online, infuriating Kenyans.
On social media, Kenyans came out in droves to reprimand the MP for what they termed as divisive remarks against the residents of the region.
