MP Salasya Announces Bid For 2027 Presidential Polls

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has confirmed his candidacy for president in 2027, joining an ever-growing list of contenders.

In a statement posted on Monday morning, the young lawmaker noted that the decision was made after extensive public engagement and discussion.

“Fellow Kenyans, after deep reflection, wide consultations, and careful consideration of the state of our nation, I, Peter Kalerwa Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East Constituency, hereby declare my intention to vie for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the 2027 General Election,” he declared.

According to the MP, he was motivated to run for the seat by a “profound desire to offer bold, transformative leadership that will reposition our great nation for industrial growth, economic empowerment, and social justice.”

Salasya sought to run on an agenda that included ending labor and talent exports in favor of ending employment.

He expressed his steadfast belief in Kenya’s ability to manufacture, innovate, and industrialize in order to create long-term jobs and realize its full potential.

To realize his dream for Kenyans, he claimed that he will lead a new political party, which will be launched later this year.

“This movement will embody the dreams and aspirations of a new Kenya: a Kenya where opportunity is not a privilege for the few but for all of us,” Salasya stated.

“I invite all Kenyans — especially the youth, the women, the workers, the entrepreneurs, and the dreamers — to join me on this journey toward a new dawn for our beloved country. Together, we can and we shall build a prosperous, inclusive, and united Kenya.”

Salasya’s bid follows numerous other presidential campaigns, including the whole opposition movement.

Several members, including Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Rigathi Gachagua, and Fred Matiang’i, have indicated plans to run.

In a Weru TV interview on Sunday night, Gachagua stated that all members, including himself, would run until the final point, when one would be chosen to be the flagbearer.

Others who have declared intentions to vie for the top seat in 2027 are Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and former Chief Justice David Maraga.
