‘Decrease Vehicle Roof Appearances!’ – Mt Kenya Senator Tells Ruto After Shoe Incident
Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has advised President William Ruto to reduce his ‘car roof politics’ and concentrate on working from his office.
This comes after President Ruto was hit by a flying shoe while addressing a public gathering atop his car in Migori County on Sunday when he wooed the masses with his pledges to lower the cost of living.
Senator Nyutu responded to the incident on Monday, telling Citizen TV that his public appearances while speaking from his car’s sunroof endanger President Ruto’s security.
He believes that President Ruto should instead focus on establishing himself in his office and working on his ambitious reforms.
“The president is the symbol of unity and anything happening to him will affect the nation in a big way and we pray that such an incident does not happen again,” Senator Nyutu noted.
Senator Joe Nyutu: Even as we raise concerns about the President’s security, Ruto must also reduce the car-roof politics while leading chants like ‘Kasongo yeye…’. “He needs to reduce car roof appearances because it makes it complicated for his security to ensure that he is secure from the crowds.”
He added: “Stick to the office, work, develop policies so that we feel him through the implementation of projects.”
The senator further stated that the president’s frequent vehicle top appearances continue to tarnish his image, as the populace dislikes him.
“The president also needs to work on this because when you see him leading the song ‘Kasongo’, the stature of that office also gets affected,” Nyutu said.

He was referring to the new ‘Kasongo’ title, which Kenyans gave him on social media channels to lampoon his leadership style.

President Ruto has accepted the term, saying it is positive and he has no ill will toward it.
Meanwhile, three people involved in the shoe-throwing incident have been apprehended.
A security officer, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation, said that investigations are underway and that other suspects are being sought.
He stated that preliminary results indicate the incident was politically motivated and possibly planned ahead of the President’s visit.
