DCI Makes Another Breakthrough In MP Were’s Fatal Shooting
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has stated that they have identified the car used to transport the key suspects in the gruesome murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 5, the detectives also notified the public that they had discovered cash profits that appeared to be used to facilitate MP Were’s murder on Wednesday, April 30.
While not divulging the make of the vehicle used, the DCI stated that the exhibits would be key in solving the murder case, even as four individuals were detained and charged in court.
“The investigation has yielded several key exhibits that are crucial to the case,” DCI stated.
“These exhibits-surveillance footage, the identification of the vehicle used to drop off the suspects, the financial proceeds found, and the connections to accompanying suspects-are pivotal in advancing the investigation and understanding the events surrounding Hon. Ong’ondo Were’s tragic murder,” they further noted.

Further to the Inspector General’s press statement on May 4, 2025, regarding the tragic shooting of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, we would like to provide an update to the public on the…
Earlier on Sunday, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the arrests and linked Were’s murder to an Eastlands-based gang.
According to the National Police Service, several of the apprehended individuals are members of the renowned Mjahidin gang, an organized criminal cell implicated in a string of armed robberies in Nairobi’s Eastlands neighborhood.
The gang has been on the authorities’ radar for some time due to violent robberies throughout the city.
Prior to their arrest, DCI investigators expressed confidence that they would be able to track down the gunman.
They claimed that a forensic recreation of the MP’s final moments had led them to important clues that would help them track down the killers.
Aside from the forensic reconstruction, the investigative body stated that a “meticulous examination of the crime scene and collection of critical evidence” had contributed considerably to the investigation.
At the time of his death, Were was with his bodyguard and driver, both of whom were uninjured by the gunman on a motorcycle.
