Mudavadi Jets To Washington After High-Level Invitation By Trump
Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary, has arrived in Washington, DC, following an invitation from the United States administration.
According to a statement released by the Prime CS’s office on Tuesday, May 6, the visit was intended to deepen long-standing connections between Kenya and the United States.
This is the first high-level encounter between Kenya and the United States since President Donald Trump took office in January.
Trump and Ruto have spoken over the phone, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also called Nairobi multiple times.

However, as Kenya positions itself as the gateway to East Africa, Trump’s administration is making new inroads at the State House.
One of the main topics of discussion during the meetings will be trade and investment, with Mudavadi anticipated to advocate for the renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), the trade pact that opened up US markets to African countries.
“On Trade and Investment, H.E. Mudavadi will push for the expansion of economic ties, including the renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and attracting US investments to Kenya,” the office of the Prime CS revealed in the statement.
Mudavadi’s trip will also include talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Both leaders are scheduled to discuss expanding the scope of collaboration between the two countries.

Mudavadi will also meet with Brian Mast, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and representatives from the International Development Finance Corporation.
In addition, the Prime CS is scheduled to attend a high-level business discussion at the United States Chamber of Commerce.
At this summit, he will meet with high-level American investors and promote Kenya as an attractive investment destination.

Amid the continuing tariff conflicts between China and the United States, the Kenyan government appears to be taking a measured approach to maintaining tight connections with both countries.
Mudavadi’s visit comes only weeks after President William Ruto visited China and signed numerous profitable accords.
Ruto’s visit was intended to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which Kenya and China established in 2017.
Since then, China has become one of Kenya’s most important allies.
