UDA Issues New Statement On Ward-Level Elections
President William Ruto’s UDA has launched arrangements for the upcoming Phase II Ward-level grassroots elections by officially establishing its online registration platform.
The ruling alliance has invited anyone who desires to participate in the elections to register.
Anthony Mwaura, chairman of the UDA’s National Elections Board, stated that the site, which opened on Wednesday, May 7, will close on May 16.
This allows Polling Centre Committee Officials and eligible participants to register.

“The National Elections Board of UDA wishes to inform all Polling Centre Committee officials and eligible participants that the online registration portal for the upcoming Phase II Ward-level grassroots elections will be open from May 7 and will close on May 16,” the notice read in part.
According to the elections board, the party will hold ward-level grassroots elections in 22 counties.
The counties are Bungoma, Garissa, Isiolo, Kajiado, Mandera, Marsabit, Makueni, Migori, Kilifi, Kisii, and Kisumu.
Others include Kitui, Kwale, Lamu, Machakos, Mombasa, Nyamira, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Turkana, and Wajir.
The board has encouraged all members to participate in the elections, describing them as a democratic process that is fundamental to the party.
“All eligible participants are encouraged to register on our grassroots registration portal within this period and actively take part in this important democratic process,” the notice said.
The elections are expected to have a significant impact on the 2027 general election, as the ruling party seeks to improve its internal institutions and solidify support at the local level.
Party elections in Kenya have frequently been characterized by conflicts and instability, prompting many political parties to either boycott them or seek consensus.

Previously, UDA had delays in completing its grassroots elections.
The elections, which began in April 2024, were halted in June due to the Generation Z protests.
UDA had planned to hold elections in Nairobi, Narok, Busia, West Pokot, and Homa Bay, but only completed them in Busia and Homa Bay before calling off the operation.
Elections in West Pokot were postponed due to security concerns, while petitions contesting the process’s credibility caused delays in Nairobi and Narok.
