KeNHA Resumes Multi-Million Highway Construction Connecting 4 Counties
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has resumed building the Ksh15.7 billion Mamboleo Junction-Miwani-Chemelil-Muhoroni-Kipsitet route, which had been stalled due to a lack of money.
Eliud Owalo, Deputy Chief of Staff in the President’s Office, stated during an inspection tour of the 122-kilometer project on Thursday, May 8, that the budget issue had been addressed.
He said that the government had allocated the necessary cash to complete all delayed roads around the country.

Owalo stated that all of the country’s blocked roads would be completed in the near future.
“The government has now unlocked the funding challenge for the road sector that we have been witnessing over the past two years,” Owalo stated.
“All stalled roads in the country will be completed in the not-too-distant future.”
The highway, which connects Kisumu, Kericho, Nandi, and Nyamira counties, is being built in stages by three separate contractors under the supervision of KeNHA.
According to Owalo, the highway’s completion was a game changer in the region since it would open the entire sugar belt’s economic potential and increase regional trade.
The first phase of the road, which is now under construction, is a 33.9-kilometre section between Mamboleo Junction and Miwani, which would cost Ksh5.2 billion.

The second phase is planned to include the building of a 43.4-kilometre section between Miwani and Chemelil, which will cost Ksh4.96 billion.
Meanwhile, the third phase includes the construction of a 44.7-kilometer length between Chemelil and Kipsitet.
Linet Atieno, a KeNHA official, commented on the project, expressing optimism that the road will be completed and urged the government to continue momentum in payment processing.
“We appreciate the government’s efforts. Our commitment is to deliver, and we ask for continued fast-tracking of funds to avoid future delays,” Linet said.

The announcement came a week after Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir held a consultation meeting with road contractors to thank them for restarting construction on previously delayed projects.
Chirchir stated that the resumption of road construction projects demonstrated a renewed commitment to improving Kenya’s road network infrastructure.
“This initiative holds significant promise for improving transportation across the country, enabling Kenyans to experience more efficient and seamless connectivity,” the CS commented.
He went on to add, “The resumption of work will significantly contribute to increased employment opportunities across the sector—from direct employment by the projects to service providers or suppliers to the contractors and their employees.”
